DANIELSON, CT – On Sunday, October 18, 2009, QVCC Director of College Development, Monique C.K. Wolanin will run the Amica Marathon in Newport, RI to raise money for the Learning in Retirement endowed scholarship which was established in 2008. The “LiR Dash for the Cash” idea was conceived by Ms. Wolanin and Learning in Retirement member Gabrielle Bousquet.
Ms. Bousquet stated, “Monique and I used to work together at Pomfret School. Now she is with QVCC, and since I am a member of LiR, our lives are linked once more. Over dinner, she mentioned that she was in training for a marathon. We shared memories of the time one of our Pomfret School trustees ran the Boston Marathon, and raised money for Annual Giving, and I suggested she do the same for QVCC.”
QVCC Learning in Retirement President, Bill Brower stated, “Last year the Executive Board of Learning in Retirement decided to fund an endowed scholarship, which will provide a permanent source of financial aid for deserving students at the College. We have traditionally given scholarships every year from the monies we collect in memberships and course fees, but thought it would be wise to establish this scholarship account through the QVCC Foundation. We have such a wonderful relationship with QVCC and its multi-age community that we want to continue to give back.”
The QVCC Foundation was founded in 1971. The mission of the QVCC Foundation is to raise funds so that all residents of northeastern Connecticut are provided the opportunity to attend QVCC regardless of income, and to support educational excellence, technological advancement, and professional development at the College.
