Creative Concoctions
Come explore the world of science through the use of literature and hands-on experiments. We will dive into topics such as matter (solids, liquids & gases), weather cycles and extreme weather patterns, nutrition and many more!

Young Veterinarians
For all the young animal lovers, this course will introduce you to a variety of different animals, proper pet care, and how we can live harmoniously with our animal friends. Each day will feature new and interesting projects and various pets will be brought in by students and guests throughout the week.

Puppets, Fairy Tales, and Fables
This class is an introduction to the exciting world of puppetry! We will learn the history of puppetry, create our own characters and puppets, and use puppets to enact classic fairy tales and fables. The class will culminate in a final performance of theatrical magic for parents! Puppet creation (using paper Mache, Fimo clay, felt, etc), writing, and performance will be emphasized, as well as having a great time!

Biome Blast
Each day we will take an in-depth look at one of the major biomes (environments) of the world. Through literature and interactive web resources we will travel to different regions of the world. From the deserts of Africa to the Tundra of Antarctica, we will explore what life in these climates really consists of!

Monster Mash
Come explore the realm of your favorite classic monsters—from medieval dragons to movie monsters. In this class we will make monster drawings and puppets, and monster-themed food, and songs. The course will culminate in a play about monsters for some ghoulish fun! You will learn about monsters in an historical context, but also develop important writing and creative skills. And of course, all the while having buckets of fun!

It’s Easy Being Green: Crafting Fun with Recycling
Practice the three R’s—reduce, reuse, recycle—in a fun and crafty way. Plant a soda bottle terrarium or start seeds in origami newspaper pot. Create a practical use for worn blue jeans, like a mini purse or book cover. Make an old tie or a mateless sock into a cuddly stuffed snake or cute caterpillar. Add style to a t-shirt with fabric paint and textured treads from castoff sneakers.

Catch a Wave: An Ocean Adventure
Dive into a week of crafting, reading and writing as we examine various aspects of the world’s oceans. Explore the fascinating creatures that inhabit the deep and hear tales of pirates, sea monsters, mermaids and shipwrecks.  Dig your toes in the sand and relax at an imaginary beach. Ride the crest of the waves on a schooner or plumb the depths of the sea in a submarine.

Puppets on Parade
Calling all future puppeteers…if you have ever wondered how a puppet works, get your hands ready to be strung along through this course. Let your imagination go wild as you set out to create your own puppet and get ready to learn what it takes to make your puppet move. We will look at some examples of puppets and how they have been used in television, movies, and on the stage. Each aspiring puppeteer will make his/her own marionette and put on a puppet show with classmates. This course might have many strings involved, but your creativity will surely not be held down!

Art Adventures
Join us on a week-long adventure through the exciting world of art. You will become real working artists, creating works of art each day using a multitude of mediums from paint to candy and found objects. Drawing, painting, and performance will allow for a diverse artistic experience, and you will have a chance to explore the many possibilities of what it is to be an art adventurer! The class will culminate in a retrospective art show on our final day—parents welcome, of course!

Mask Making
You will gain an understanding and appreciation of masks used in many cultures throughout the world. Learn the different characteristics of masks such as symmetry, expression, exaggerations, as well as symbolic meaning.  You will create a sculptural mask using paper Mache and exhibit craftsmanship in applying layers. Your creativity will result in the completion of the mask through use of color choices, pattern, symmetry, embellishments and relief. Come enjoy the amazing world of masks!

Going Green Kids Academy Style
Sustainability 101! In this class we will learn fun ways to make a difference with the environment. You will create and decorate reusable shopping bags, plant flowers around campus, and create songs, posters, and a play about the environment. We will also participate in an Earth Day-style campus clean-up. Have some fun while saving the earth!

Lively Lyrics!
Kids get a chance to write and perform their own verse to tell a story, and learn how poetry in the form of jingles, rhymes and song lyrics shapes their daily lives.  Students will explore the exciting world of short stories where they can let their imaginations run wild!

Beadazzled
Create a necklace, bracelet, and earrings from a variety of glass beads provided by the instructor. There will be a focus on Egyptian style jewelry and its influence on styles today. You will also make a pendant from clay that will be fired, painted, and finally glossed over for a finished look. You will have your own unique piece of jewelry that you have created!

Mini-Myth busters
Does cold water really boil faster? Are our fingerprints really unique and how do detectives collect them? Can simple backing soda and vinegar really blow up a balloon? In this course we will explore these and other experiments as we try to uncover the mysteries behind several scientific myths. Get out those goggles and lab coats and get ready for some summer science fun!

Iron Chef QVCC
See how much fun food can be, not only to eat, but to make! In this class we will have fun with food: decorating, packaging, recipe creation, marketing, and eating! We will focus primarily on fun, easy-to-make kinds of food, such as healthy fruit smoothies (label and all!) and hard candy sculptures. On the final day we will have an Iron Chef Kids Academy cake decorating contest! Everyone is an Iron Chef in this class!

A Green Thumb
Come enjoy the exciting world of horticulture! You will make your own self-esteem garden, sort the seeds, grow the plants and discuss nature too! You will get a hands-on taste of gardening while exploring art and literature along the way. If you have a green thumb, this is the class for you!

Come write and perform your own stories as we explore the keys to timeless storytelling and share oral traditions from other times and lands. You will let your imaginations run wild!
