Welcome to the Connecticut Motorcycle Rider Education Program at Quinebaug Valley Community College. Motorcycling is one of the most exciting forms of transportation around. Part of the thrill of motorcycling is to know that you are totally responsible for every action taken from timing each shift to keeping a keen eye out for other motorists. To understand these responsibilities and get the most from your experiences, the Connecticut Basic Rider Course is the place to start. This course offers expert instruction for both the beginner and experienced rider. Successful completion of this course fulfills the requirements of the State-approved novice rider course for licensing, leaving only the “written” test to be taken.

The BRC is especially suited for individuals with little or no riding experience. The BRC begins with development of the fundamental riding skills of turning, shifting, and braking, then expands these basic skills into more advanced street riding techniques. Training motorcycles, ranging in size from 125 cc's to 350 cc's, are provided. Helmets are also available as needed. Students MUST attend and participate in ALL sessions, in sequence, with NO exceptions! Any absence will require the student to register for another course, pay again, and start from the beginning. If you know you will miss a session for any reason, please choose another course offering. Students will be registered on a first come, first served basis.Basic Rider Course Fee: $200
Thinking about learning to ride a motorcycle but don’t know if it’s for you? Try before you buy
your bike! New in 2009, QVCC is offering a Pre-Rider Course as an introduction to motorcycle
riding.
This class is for very new beginners who want to learn to ride but have never been around a motorcycle
or who have only been a passenger. The course will consist of riding and instruction time
in an outdoor setting.
You will learn where the controls are and how to operate them, the proper way to dress while riding,
clutch control (Friction Zone) and the basic operational techniques for straight line riding and
braking. Class size is small (maximum 4-6 students) which will allow more individualized attention.
You must provide and wear: long sleeved shirt or jacket, long jeans, full-fingered gloves, boots or
shoes that cover the ankle, and glasses/goggles. If you have a helmet, it must be D.O.T. approved.
The class will run rain or shine.
Pre-Rider Course Fee: $40
