Is a student suspended permanently from the College?

No, the suspension lasts for one year. After the year has passed, a student may apply for re-admission. All requests for re-admission must be in writing to the Dean of Learning and Student Development. This letter should detail the changes the student has made to ensure success upon return.

Does probation status limit the number of classes in which a student may enroll?

Students are not automatically limited in the number of credits they may pursue at the present time. However, probation status signals the need to take dramatic steps to improve a student’s academic standing and likelihood of success. Advisors will often recommend a reduced load. Preliminary research at QVCC seems to indicate those who take a reduced load are much more likely to succeed.

Can a student be on probation and the dean’s list?

Yes, a student can be in this situation. GPA Probation is the result of all of the grades a student achieves while at the College. Dean’s List is based upon a student’s performance during a single semester. Thus, it is possible for a student to be on the Dean’s List and be in any of the levels of academic standing or jeopardy.
