Letter grades are given to let students know how well they are learning the material in their courses. Each instructor chooses the factors he/she believes are important in deciding which grade to give (test results, attendance, outside projects, participation in class, etc.). For each letter grade there is a corresponding number of quality points. These are used to provide a numerical expression of a student's work.
The table provided shows the grades and their quality point equivalents:

Final Grade Rosters
Final grade reports are due electronically via www.online@commnet.edu in the Records Office not later than 48 hours after the final exam for a course is given. Faculty members are encouraged to submit final grade reports as soon as possible after the administration of each final exam.
Web For Faculty
WEB for Faculty has been available since late March 2002. Beginning with the Fall 2003 semester, all rosters and grade sheets will be supplied to you via Web for Faculty. No paper copies will be handed out. The following will provide some information for the processing of grades.
The use of web grading is a secure, encrypted process that protects the security and integrity of information pertaining to both the faculty and students. Web grading may be accessed by adjunct faculty members from any computer with Internet access to the ONLINE Banner Web system, www.online.commnet.edu using your Banner ID number (@xxxxxxxx) and the unique PIN you created when you logged in and changed the PIN from your birthdate. Upon entering the system for the first time, you will be prompted to change the PIN to something of your choosing. Those who have previously used the system have already designated their own unique PIN . If you do not know your Banner ID or experience difficulty with your PIN number, please contact our college HELP DESK at 860-774-1130.
Only those classes that you teach will appear for grading. In courses with multiple instructors, only the primary instructor may enter the grades. The system will provide the opportunity to submit grades by selecting from a drop-down box. Please note the following when entering grades:
Enter a grade for all students listed on the grade screen.
There is a 30 minute 'no action' time limit with the web product so press the submit button frequently so you don't lose data.
If you have more than 25 students in your class, please press the link at the top or bottom of the screen indicating #26 through to the last student. This will bring you to the second page.
If a student has followed the official withdrawal procedures, a grade of "W"' will appear. An "AU" appears for students who chose to audit the course. These cannot be over-written.
If a student has stopped attending your class, enter an "F".
Don 't enter anything in the Attendance columns!!
The Records Office will be rolling grades daily. You will need to complete a "Notice of Grade Change" card if you need to change a grade.
Final grades are immediately recorded when you press the SUBMIT key. Failure to press the SUBMIT key will cause all grades to be lost and you will need to re-enter them.
Web grading allows us to better serve our students in a more timely and secure manner. Students will be able to retrieve their grades via the web as they are "rolled" to the student's academic record.
FOR A MORE COMPLETE EXPLANATION OF WEB FOR FACULTY, SEE THE APPENDIX OF THIS HANDBOOK OR THE COLLEGE WEBSITE.
Grade Books
All adjunct faculty are required at the end of each semester to leave photocopies of "Grade Book" sheets with the Dean of Learning and Student Development.
The purpose of this requirement is to provide QVCC officials with some understanding of how grades were arrived at (attendance, class participation, quizzes, hour exams, papers final examination, etc.) in case they are challenged by students after part-time instructors are no longer teaching at the College. Such material should specify the relative weights assigned to various components in arriving at the final grade.
It is no longer necessary to turn in a copy of your final exam. Please retain a copy in your files should a question arise.
