The places to go for more information on the happenings from 1879 to1897
1. THE KILLINGLY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The very helpful and pleasant ladies, Marcella Passay and Marilyn Labbe, from the Historical society helped us quite a bit . Mr. Ed Ledogar also helped us a great deal and was very patient with us when we were working with the microfilm. Originally we were going to follow children who were in school and from two different families in 1879.We were provided with old , actual school records. While researching, though, we decided to provide you with an accounting of what it would have been like to have lived back in the 1800's. We would also like to give our sincere thanks to Bob Spencer. Without him we would not have our copies of pictures that are from Killingly. All our events happened, if not all in Killingly, definitely in Connecticut.
The popular paper of this time-The Windham County Transcript is available on microfilm at the Killingly Historical Society. We also used Dr. Hills' diary. He wrote interesting facts on practically a daily basis on what was going on at that time.
2. Books from QVCTC and Eastford Public Library
The following can be found in any public library-ask your librarian! While researching we found that just about every town has a book to tell about the town and it's history. We encourage those who want more knowledge on the history and people of their towns to go to their local Historical Society. They are easy to find and are run by people who are friendly and knowledgeable and always willing to help you learn more.
As for the way life in Connecticut itself, we recommend David M. Roth. He seems to have made a life out of studying the history of this state and is very knowledgeable and easy to read.
