WebCT Vista Training at QVCC
WebCT has become the "Course Management System" of choice for the Connecticut Community College System, through the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC). As such, the software itself is centrally hosted on CTDLC servers with each college having access to its own course offerings. WebCT "course shells" are now automatically set up for every course offered in the system, and it is eventually up to each individual instructor how and if to use the resource. Further, a growing number of full courses are in fact offered through WebCT.
In the fall of 2005, the CTDLC upgraded to a new version of WebCT called Vista (not to be confused with the latest version of MS Windows, also called Vista!) For those already familiar with WebCT, this is not a dramatic change, but it may in fact take some training to learn the features and navigation of the this system as well as to do this with an eye on effective teaching. One way this has been addressed is through System-wide Vista training classes run by representatives from the System Office, in conjunction with local Vista trainers on many campuses. Watch for regular notices about upcoming training events.
Vista is just one educational technology resource among many, for which the college will be providing training and learning-assistance.
At Quinebaug Valley Community College, you can also contact Pauline Clifford (Director of Educational Technology), for further questions about Vista and other learning/teaching technologies.
