LIBRARY EXPANSION
See New Pictures of the newly furnished Library!
The library has grown by an additional 3,000 square feet, which provides:
-
additional library classroom space
-
quiet study areas
-
a larger periodical reading area
-
an increased number of shelves will allow the book collection to expand along with the college.
The entire layout of the library has been changed.
-
The entrance has been relocated to the area adjacent to where Dean Bull's new office situated.
-
Our circulation and information desks have been moved to this side of the library, which will provide more convenient reference and check-out services for students, faculty, staff, and the local community.
-
The library shelving is also going to be relocated. Currently, the books are on two separate sides of the library. The expansion project will not only enable us to install additional shelves to accommodate a growing collection, but also reorganize our current titles into a more manageable layout.
The QVCC Library has long been a very active and vibrant part of the QVCC community. We encourage open collaboration, as well as offer one-on-one researching sessions to assist students with their work. If a student wants to “get away,” the expansion is giving us additional space off the beaten path where students can study in a more tranquil setting.
Periodicals, a staple
of any library collection, will be given new prominence in the revised
layout. A periodical reading area, complete with comfortable seating and
magazines displayed a more inviting fashion, will encourage our users to
relax and read, or sit and converse with friends between classes.
Library Classroom
The old library classroom contained eight computers. After expansion, this area will allow space for more than 20 computers, which can be utilized during library instruction sessions or for general research use. The additional computers will also help lessen the wait for a computer during our peak points of use during the semester.
