Bilingual Educational Paraprofessional
Certificate
(30 semester hours minimum)
The Bilingual Educational Paraprofessional Certificate is for students who are interested in becoming teachers eventually, or entering the field of education in another capacity. Students who earn the Bilingual Educational Paraprofessional Certificate will be prepared to work in Pre-K-5 schools in a variety of jobs in which they support students and assist classroom teachers. Graduates of the Bilingual Educational Paraprofessional Certificate program will emerge with a valuable, marketable job skill which provides them with direct access to professions in the field of education.
Learners who complete the Bilingual Educational Paraprofessional certificate will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in explaining basic math concepts to students
- Demonstrate proficiency in instruction of proofreading and grammar skills
- Demonstrate ability to resolve emotional conflicts between students
- Demonstrate an understanding of common exceptionalities
- Demonstrate an understanding of the range of responsibilities of classroom teachers
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic classroom management skills
- Demonstrate an understanding of theories relevant to physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development of young children
- Demonstrate knowledge of learning environments in terms of logistical, administrative, interpersonal, and social elements
- Demonstrate ability to apply specialized knowledge gained from electives to the learning environment of their choice
- Demonstrate ability to apply these in a bilingual learning environment

- For students who know Spanish, the appropriate score on a Spanish placement test can substitute for SPAN 201 and SPAN 202.
