KEYBOARDING AND WORD PROCESSING

Using KeyboardingPro and Microsoft Word

Text: College Keyboarding and Word Processing Microsoft Word 2002, Lessons 1 - 60,VanHuss, Duncan, Forde, & Woo, South-Western Publishing, 2002. You will also need a 3 1/2" disk to store your data files on.

Course Description: This is an introductory course for student with no previous training in keyboarding (typing) or for students who wish to further develop keyboarding skills. Emphasis is skill building using the touch-type method and learning to use word processing software to create personal, academic, and business documents.

Objectives:

  1. Develop manipulative skill and learn to use the computer keyboard.
  2. Learn keyboarding skills using the touch-type method.
  3. Develop the ability to copy accurately at 20 words a minute.
  4. Enter and print simple documents using a word processing program.
  5. Edit documents.
  6. Compose and format letters, memos, reports, and simple tables.
  7. Proofread carefully.
  8. Increase keyboarding speed and accuracy.
  9. Enhance problem-solving techniques through use of reference materials.  

Grading: Grades will be based on the number of lessons completed, as well as the BEST THREE timed writings. All timed writings must be completed in class.
