GRADING: Each student will prepare and deliver to the class a paper on an assigned topic.
    Lecture Exams= 45%*
    Practical Competency Exams = 45%
    Attendance/Participation= 10%
    *Research paper/oral presentation = 1 test grade
*Final Exam = 2 test grades
*Accumulation of homework assignments = 1 test grade

Competency Exams:The purpose of competency based education to prepare students to perform medical assisting skills under conditions which simulate a realistic work environment. The student is expected to perform at a level of accuracy and speed required of an entry level medical assistant.Procedural steps are listed and weighted as critical (15 points**) essential (5 points*), and important (1 point no asterisk).A minimum score of 85 is required on each competency.Fifteen points will be deducted if a student must repeat the procedure for instructor's evaluation.Anecdotal feedback as well as numeral grade will be given the student on each competency performance.

Competency sheets will be handed out in the classroom and are available in the workbook as well.
1.Inherent in the grading system are important factors such as: attendance, initiative, neatness, cooperation.
2.No make-ups exams or competencies will be given unless arrangements have been madePRIOR to scheduled     exam/competency date and time.It is the sole responsibility of the student to re-schedule any missed exams or competencies. All missed exams or competencies must be made up within 5 days.
3.All assignments are due for the previous chapters on the day of the scheduled lecture exam on those chapters.Points will be deducted from assignments received after the required due date, regardless of student's attendance.Assignments can be left in my box in the first floor faculty office (Rm. 120).
4.I expect total academic honesty concerning assignments, exams, etc.All academic dishonesty claims will be examined for validity and student(s) will be dealt with accordingly.
5.If there is any student who has special needs because of learning disabilities, please feel free to come and discuss this with me as early as possible in the semester. You will need to provide documentation of your disability to the Director of Learning Services.
