The Quinebaug Valley Plastics Institute was formed in 2000 as a strategic partnership between QVCC and area plastic companies to both upgrade the skills of incumbent workers and to prepare a new workforce for the industry. To date, the goals of QVPI are being achieved through the following:

• Development of a concentration in Plastic Manufacturing as part of an Associate degree in Technological Studies and the establishment of a plastics laboratory
• Creation of the New Technologies bimonthly seminar series to address professional development needs of the incumbent workers
• Annual QVPI High School Plastics Competition which pairs companies and high schools. Each group of 15- 20 students is tasked with the development, design, production and marketing of a unique product over a 6 month period, culminating in an awards ceremony at QVCC.
