NEW COURSES, NEW PROGRAMS

ratified: Academic Council, 9/1/91

Any professional staff member who wishes to propose a new course or a new program should engage in informal preliminary discussions with the appropriate parties.

Full-time staff members should bring the matter to the Academic Dean. Adjunct faculty should discuss their proposals with their full-time faculty liaison and/or the Academic Dean.

If the need for a new course seems apparent and if the first response is generally positive, the initiator should forward a proposal to the chair of the Division Council.

Forms and procedures for proposing new courses are available from the Faculty Secretary or in the office of the Academic Dean.

The proposal will then be assigned to one or both of the standing committees of the Academic Council for review and evaluation.

New COURSES require approval only at the college level.

Proposed new PROGRAMS require approval first at the college level and then by both the Board of Trustees of the Community Colleges and by the Board of Governors for Higher Education.
