Developmental Studies Courses And Placement

1. All Developmental Study courses will carry three (3) institutional credits. "Institutional credit " is defined as credit which is figured into the overall grade-point average but does not count towards credit needed to meet graduation requirements in any degree program.

2. The final grade in Developmental Study courses shall be the letter grade options A, B, C, and F* or Pass/Fail (P, F*).

NOTE: Developmental Studies faculty have unanimously agreed on the following grading policy statement: "A student must earn a grade of C or better to exit a Developmental course and progress to the next level. Letter grades will reflect the quality of the work completed in the course and proficiency the student has achieved. The grading policy will be rigorous and consistent with grading in college level courses in the institution."

3. Any student registering for more than twelve (12) credits should be strongly counseled to register for any recommended Developmental courses that s/he has not yet taken, but that student must in any case begin developmental courses and complete them sequentially from that first full-time semester."

4. Any student recommended for a Developmental Reading and Study Skills course is required to take that course during his/her first semester here, except that students in the General Studies Exploratory program will be exempt.

5. "Developmental courses" here are defined as exclusively those entry-level courses supervised by the Director of the Learning Center for which students' skills are specifically assessed and into which students are formally placed.
