PURPOSE:
1. To allow a student additional time to complete the requirements of a course when, due to extenuating circumstances, he/she is not able to meet the normal deadline.
POLICY:
1. A grade of "I" (In-Progress or Incomplete) is a temporary grade which may be assigned to a student who, because of extenuating circumstances, is unable to complete the requirements of a course by the end of the semester.
2. In order to obtain a grade of "I," a student must secure an extension of time from the instructor prior to the completion of the semester. The instructor will determine whether the circumstances justify the granting of an extension.
3. If the instructor approves the request, the instructor may ask for a written confirmation of the agreement from the student.
4. A student will have 45 calendar days from the end of the semester in which an "I" was received to complete the remaining work.
5. If the instructor does not change the grade by the end of the 45 days, the grade will automatically be changed to an "F" on the student's transcript.
6. In rare instances, an instructor may grant a further extension of time, or may ask the Director of Records to modify a grade that has been converted to an "F."
