Responsive
academic advisement means that faculty and
professional staff meet with students to discuss:
- their program of study and their
courses,
- their
future plans for transferring to other
colleges and universities or for
preparing to enter the workforce,
- other
issues related to their academic success
at QVCC, among which may be advisor
referral to other within-the-college or
within-the-community resources as
appropriate.
Why should I meet with an
advisor?

|
You should
meet with your advisor regularly to:
- learn more
about your chosen program of study; keep
abreast of important issues as they
surface in your major,
- learn more
about the scheduling of offerings for
courses in your program of study so you
can take courses in the right sequence,
- find out how to
best use all the free services QVCC has
to offer you as a student,
- get advise on
academic issues that affect your chances
for success at QVCC,
- learn about
transfer articulations QVCC has with
other colleges and universities and
prepare yourself for a smooth transfer,
- maximize the
effectiveness of the time you spend at QVCC.
When should I see my advisor?

|
You should
meet with your advisor each semester
- whenever you
have a question or concern that affects
your performance in your courses or that
pertains to your program of study,
- when you want
to discuss your plans, both current and
future, about transfer,
- toward the end
of each semester (in October or November
for the spring semester, in April or May
for the Fall semester) in order to
prepare for registration.
How do I make an
appointment?

address of your advisor.

Where do we meet?

You can
meet with your advisor in the following location:
- If your advisor
is a faculty member you can meet in her/his
office. Faculty offices are located on
the first and second floors of the
Danielson campus building.
- If your advisor
is a staff member you can meet in her/his
office. Professional staff offices are
located throughout the Danielson and
Willimantic campuses. Contact the
Learning and Student Development office
for location.
- While it is
most desirable for you to meet with your
assigned advisor, if incompatible
schedules make it difficult for you to
meet, you can get walk-in advisement in
the Learning Center. Each semester, the
Learning Center publishes a walk-in
advisement schedule. The Learning Center
will list the advisors' specialty, and
you can meet with an advisor whose area
of expertise matches your interest or
need. Check out the bulletin board
outside the Learning Center or this web
site for a weekly advisement schedule.
- If your classes
are at the Willimantic Center, you can
get advisement services through the
Center. Check at the reception desk to
schedule an appointment with an advisor.
