    Two Students receive NASA Space Grant Scholarships

    Nine students enrolled in the College of Technology program at Quinebaug Valley Community College were recently inducted into the Gamma Phi Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, the international honor society for professions in technology. More

  • QVCC Student Organizes Collection for Fire Victims (4/29/08)
    Jodi Miller, a student at Quinebaug Valley Community College, has organized a relief effort for the victims of last weekend’s devastating fire at the Peachtree apartment complex in Norwich. More

  • Ribbon Cutting for Construction Workshop on April 29 (4/25/08)
    On Tuesday, April 29th at 3 pm, Quinebaug Valley Community College will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony to formally announce the new construction workshop on campus. The workshop is located at the rear of the QVCC Danielson campus at 742 Upper Maple Street. The construction technology program at QVCC is allowing area students to pursue a degree or certificate in construction technology. Students can also continue their education with two bachelor’s degree programs at Central Connecticut State University. More

  • QVCC Dean Honored by Home Builders Association (4/24/08)
    The Home Builders Association of Connecticut (HBACT) honored Dr. Susan Huard, dean of learning and student development at Quinebaug Valley Community College, with the Connecticut Dream Award on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008. This award is given annually to a public official who works to support the American dream of homeownership. Huard was recognized for her efforts to develop a curriculum for a degree program in building construction technology for the community college. More

  • Student E-mail Triggers Visit from State Rep. Shawn Johnston (4/22/08)
    Student letters and e-mails to members of the state government and legislature resulted in a visit to Erin Pagano’s macroeconomic class by Democratic State Representative Shawn Johnston on Monday, April 21st. As part of the “Poverty, Who Cares?” project at Quinebaug Valley Community College, students posed questions about the current level of state expenditures and whether it is improving the overall standard of living in this area of Connecticut. One of the few responses came to Erick Thorstenson, Thompson, CT, who did receive an initial reply to his e-mail, which was then followed up with the visit to the class. More

  • Poverty: Who Cares Exhibit at QVCC (4/11/08)
    Numerous student organizations and classes at Quinebaug Valley Community College are involved in a two-day event that looks at poverty on local, national, and international levels. More

  • Second Annual Earth Week Art Contest Co-Sponsored by QVCC (4/2/08)

    Third and fourth grade students in northeast Connecticut are invited to participate in the second annual Earth Week Art Contest, co-sponsored by Nurture the Children, Quinebaug Valley Community College Multicultural Planning Committee and QVCC Student Government Association. More

  • Kids Academy on Tap for April School Break Week (4/1/08)
    Quinebaug Valley Community College will hold its Spring Break Week Kids Academy April 14-18 at the Danielson campus. Kids Academy offers a variety of educational and fun programs for children ages 6 to 15, with sessions in February, April and during the summer. More

  • GI Guardians Sponsoring Easter Egg Hunt (3/10/08)
    The GI Guardians, a group that provides aide to local service members and families, is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 22nd, at 10:00 am at Quinebaug Valley Community College. This event is for the families of soldiers past and present, as well as the general public. More

  • QVCC Foundation's Online Auction Supports Scholarships (2/29/08)
    Turn on your computer, get out your credit card, and log onto the annual Online Auction sponsored by the Quinebaug Valley Community College Foundation. Bidding gets underway on Saturday, March 1, with the proceeds benefiting scholarship funds at the College. Each year the Foundation provides more than $100,000 in direct scholarship, financial aid, and emergency funds to QVCC students. More

    Introduction to Studio Art students at Quinebaug Valley Community College‘s Willimantic Center designed and decorated the windows along the Main Street Center as part of  the window decorating contest for the fourth Annual Chocolate Festival. More

  • Keeping it Local: Former QVCC Student Returns as Instructor of History in Spring Semester  (1/30/08)

    Angela Marie Ocasio, Willimantic, CT is an adjunct faculty member teaching United States History II at the Quinebaug Valley Community College Willimantic Center during the evening this spring semester.  What makes Ocasio unique? Ocasio is a graduate of Windham Technical High School, a 2002 graduate of QVCC and obtained her bachelor and master’s degree at Eastern Connecticut State University. More

     

  • QVCC Holds Kids Academy During School Break (1/28/08)

    Parents who are looking for interesting and creative activities to keep their children busy during February school break week can look no farther than Quinebaug Valley Community College. The ever popular Kids Academy will be in session from February 18–22 at the Danielson campus. This program provides stimulating learning opportunities throughout the year for kids ages 6–15.   • QVCC Programs Gives College Credit for Prior Learning and Experience  (1/7/08)

    Quinebaug Valley Community College will provide an opportunity for students to explore the possibility of receiving college credit for knowledge and skills acquired through direct life/work experiences by offering a Credit for Prior Learning Workshop on Tuesday, January 15, from 5:00 – 6:30 pm at the College’s Willimantic Center. More

     

  • QVCC's Development Office Welcomes New Staff (1/3/08)
    Dianne E. Williams, president of Quinebaug Valley Community College, has announced the appointments of two local residents to the College’s Development Office. Monique K. Wolanin, former director of development and alumni relations at Marianapolis Preparatory School, has been appointed director of college development. Joining her as development office assistant is Pamela Lomerson, a resident of Dayville who has previously served in the development offices at Bab son College and Brandeis University. More

    Open registration for the spring semester at Quinebaug Valley Community College will be held at the Danielson campus on Wednesday, January 2, and Wednesday, January 9. More

     

  • Winter Intersession at QVCC Starts January 2 (12/3/07)
    Registration is now underway for Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Winter Intersession that runs January 2-17, 2008.
    The College is offering eight courses during the two-week Intersession, including four online courses. The cost for a 3-credit course, including tuition and fees, is $420.50. For six credits, the cost is $807.00. More

     

  • Authority on Nonviolent Social Change to Speak at QVCC (11/20/07)

    Dr. Bernard Lafayette, distinguished-scholar-in-residence and director of the Center for Nonviolence and Peace Studies at the University of Rhode Island, will speak at Quinebaug Valley Community College on Wednesday, November 28, at 7:00 pm. More

  • A Perspective on Capital Punishment at QVCC  (10/23/07)
    Quinebaug Valley Community College student Ed Mortimer, Danielson, CT, has organized an event called "Dead Men Walking: A Perspective on Capital Punishment." The event will take place on Wednesday, October 31, 2007, 12 noon until 9:00 pm in the Robert E. Miller Auditorium at the QVCC Danielson campus. More
     

  • QVCC and Staples Provide Opportunities for Business Interns (10/23/07)
    Quinebaug Valley Community College and the Staples Killingly Distribution Center are providing internship opportunities for the College’s business students. The idea for the partnership was developed by Adjunct Faculty Member and Staples Inventory Control Manager Mike Beausoleil and QVCC Business Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Business and Accounting Jennifer Oliver. More
     

  • BOO! Haunted Hallway is Back at QVCC on October 26 (10/19/07)
    Goblins and ghosts of all ages are invited to visit the 3rd annual Haunted Hallway on Friday, October 26, at Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson. The Hallway will be open from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, with refreshments served in the cafeteria. More
     

  • Flu Vaccine Clinic to be held at QVCC Willimantic (10/12/07)
    Med-East Medical Walk-in Center will hold a special Flu Vaccine Clinic on Thursday, October 25, at Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Willimantic Center. Flu shots will be available to anyone over the age of 12 from 3:00—5:00 pm. More
     

  • QVCC Continues to Grow and Add New Programs Focusing on Technology (10/11/07)
    The fall 2007 semester at Quinebaug Valley Community College started with a record 1,846 students enrolled, an increase of 23% since Fall 2002, at the Danielson campus and the Willimantic Center. The College is continually adding new courses, certificates and degree programs and is focusing on the area of technology. More
     

  • Human Rights Speakers at QVCC (10/10/07)
    Gabriel Bol Deng, native of Sudan and Onek Adyanga, lecturer in Modern World History at the University of Connecticut, Storrs will be on the Danielson campus to discuss Human Rights in Africa on Thursday, October 18th, from 2- 3:30 pm in Robert E. Miller Auditorium. More
     

  • Refugee Camp to be Constructed on QVCC Campus (10/10/07)
    Quinebaug Valley Community College students from Associate Professor Nan Hirst’s philosophy and humanities classes and Assistant Professor Jayne Battye’s international relations class will begin to build a representation of a refugee camp starting Monday, October 15th, 2007, outdoors, at the Danielson campus. Kelsey Evans, East Killingly, is the student organizer of the event. More
     

  • E-Tutoring Comes to QVCC (10/4/07)

    A new collaborative online tutoring service created by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium is now available to students at Quinebaug Valley Community College. The College’s usage this semester has been paid for by a grant from the United States Department of Labor, affording students the opportunity to benefit from the collaborative resources of 34 participating schools in seven states offering 60 e-tutors with over 290 hours of e-Tutoring scheduled each week. Students can access this service seven days a week, from early in the morning to late at night, either on campus or from the comfort of their own homes. More
