POVERTY: WHO CARES? EXHIBIT AT QVCC
Numerous student organizations and classes at Quinebaug Valley
Community College are involved in a two-day event that looks at poverty on
local, national, and international levels.
Poverty: Who Cares?, an exhibit
to be held April 16 and 17, will feature audio and visual imagery
displays that take visitors on a self-paced journey into the world of
poverty. This is the last major event of the “Year of Sustainability” at
QVCC. This exhibit will ask the question: In this world of haves and
have-nots, how do we sustain each other?
According to Jayne Battye,
assistant professor of political science, 1.1 billion people live on less
than $1 per day, while 26,000 children die every day because of poverty. The
exhibit will cause people to think about poverty and possible solutions.
Donations for the Access food bank will also be accepted.
The event is open to the public and admission is free. For more information, email student organizer Rachael Arcand at rachael_arcand05@yahoo.com or call 412-7200.
