QVCC DEAN HONORED BY HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION
The Home Builders Association of Connecticut (HBACT) honored Dr.
Susan Huard, dean of learning and student development at Quinebaug Valley
Community College, with the Connecticut Dream Award on Tuesday, April 22nd,
2008. This award is given annually to a public official who works to support
the American dream of homeownership. Huard was recognized for her efforts to
develop a curriculum for a degree program in building construction
technology for the community college.
Dr.
Huard’s involvement with the Construction Technology program began while
working on a committee linking area businesses and industries with education
at Killingly High School, along with members of the HBACT. “When we
learned about a grant available from the National Association of Home
Builders, (NAHB), I knew it would be a great opportunity,” said Huard. “I
love the partnership aspect of the program. Students can begin their
training in high school, move onto the degree program at QVCC, and intern
with members of the local builders association, the Builders Association of
Eastern Connecticut.” Students can also continue their education with two
bachelor’s degree programs at Central Connecticut State University.
Dr. Huard has served in her current position at QVCC for 10 years. She has
been a teacher at the high school and college levels and an administrator at
Finger Lakes Community College and Manchester Community College.
