QVCC STUDENT OGRANIZES COLLECTION FOR FIRE VICTIMS
Jodi Miller,
a student at
Miller, a Plainfield resident, not only knew one of the displaced residents, but she had worked for a professional cleaning service that counted the complex as one of its clients. "I developed a friendship with the property manager, the employees, and the residents of Peachtree," she said. "When I heard about the fire I couldn't believe it."
Miller is overwhelmed by the College's response. "I still can't get over what a positive response that this project has gotten and how much it's grown," she said. "I'm hoping that our efforts will make the fire victims' lives just a little bit better...I know we can't bring back the things that were lost in the fire, but at least we can give them a helping hand and hopefully a brighter look into the future."
On Sunday,
May 4,
a U-Haul truck will be at the College from 9:00 am to
2:00 pm to collect furniture, household goods, clothing, and other
donations for the 100 plus people who were left with nothing but the clothes
on their backs. Miller says that dishes, silverware, pots and pans, bedding,
clothing, toiletries and slightly used furniture (beds, tables, chairs,
lamps) are needed. Only usable items will be accepted.
