QVCC TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS NAMED TO HONOR SOCIETY
Two QVCC Students receive NASA Space Grant Scholarships
Nine students enrolled in the
College of Technology program at Quinebaug Valley Community College were
recently inducted into the Gamma Phi Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau, the
international honor society for professions in technology.
The students include: Breanna Boyden of Colchester, John Genna, Jr. of
Danielson, David Freeman and Andreas Parden of Dayville, Robert Guillette of
Woodstock, James Mansfield of East Hampton, Robert Mayo of Rochdale, MA,
James McCormick of Hampton and Austin Warner of Thompson. The QVCC students
were joined by 27 additional student honorees on April 18, 2008, at
Manchester Community College.
Boyden and Genna were also recipients of the NASA Space Grant Scholarships.
Both QVCC students have grade point averages above 3.8 and received a cash
award. The NASA scholarship is part of the Connecticut Space Grant
Consortium which was formed in order to broaden participation in NASA
research programs. Its intent is to build a research infrastructure in
Connecticut which supports the aerospace, space science, engineering and
technology related initiatives of federal and state government and private
industry.
The College of Technology is an innovative program leading to a bachelor of
science degree in engineering or technology. After completing the associate
degree in technological studies at QVCC, students enter technical programs
at Central Connecticut State University or Charter Oak State College. The
associate degree in engineering science leads directly into the School of
Engineering at the University of Connecticut.
