QVCC GRADUATES HONORED AS BANNER BEARERS
Two
Quinebaug Valley Community College graduates were selected from nominations
made by faculty, staff, and students to serve as banner bearers at the
College’s 35th commencement. This honor is bestowed upon graduates who have
distinguished themselves to the class of 2007.
Karen Amill, a resident of Willimantic, enrolled as a non-matriculated
student, taking classes to fill her time while her son was at school. After
one semester, she decided she could pursue her plans of attaining a degree,
and she was an exceptional student with an outstanding academic record at
QVCC. She graduated with an associate’s degree and plans to attend Tunxis
Community College and continue her education in criminal justice.
Amanda Giles, who also received an associate’s degree, was an active member
of the QVCC community for the past year. She served as treasurer of the
Human Trafficking Awareness group and put together a human trafficking
awareness program that has reached students and the community alike. A
Plainfield resident, she spent the last semester as a peer educator in
International Relations and found the teaching experience to be very useful
in preparing for her professional career as a teacher.
