"ALL NEW" KIDS ACADEMY STARTS JULY 9 AT QVCC

New courses, new age groups, and a colorful new course guide all point to an exciting summer Kids Academy at Quinebaug Valley Community College. Five weeks of programs begin on July 9.

With its new theme of “Thinking, Learning, Growing,” Kids Academy offers a wide variety of fun enrichment programs for kids ages 6 to 15. Also new is a College Prep program for high school students ages 15 to 17.

Programs are now offered by three age groups: 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15. Classes will be held in the morning during three of the weeks and in the afternoon during the other two weeks. On the last day of each week, one class will be selected to showcase their learning outcomes in the College’s auditorium. In addition, all participants will be presented certificates of completion, followed by refreshments in the cafeteria.

Among the new course offerings are Sponge Bob’s Under the Sea Science, A Pirate’s Life for Me, The Amazing Race – Passport Not Required, Sherlock Holmes’ Young Detectives, Puppets and Marionettes, Planetary Safari, Young Master Gardeners, Riddle Me This, Harry Potter’s Wizardry, Hurricanes, Tornadoes and Typhoons, Welcome to Hollywood – Making Movies, Food Artistry, Gizmos and Gadgets, and Project Runway – Fashion Designers.

College Prep programs start on July 30 and include two English workshops, two math workshops, and a course in Getting Better Grades. This age group is also able to take online courses in SAT/ACT Preparation, Speed Reading, and Speed Spanish.

A limited number of scholarships are available for Kids Academy. Based upon financial need, scholarships contribute $50 toward the cost of a class. Applications are available for the Center for Community & Professional Learning or can be downloaded from the college’s web site.
Seating for all programs is limited and early registration is encouraged. For more information, to receive a course guide, or to register, contact the CPL Office at 774-1133 or visit www.qvcc.commnet.edu/cpl/kids
