E-TUTORING COMES TO QVCC

A new collaborative online tutoring service created by the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium is now available to students at Quinebaug Valley Community College.

The College’s usage this semester has been paid for by a grant from the United States Department of Labor, affording students the opportunity to benefit from the collaborative resources of 34 participating schools in seven states offering 60 e-tutors with over 290 hours of e-Tutoring scheduled each week. Students can access this service seven days a week, from early in the morning to late at night, either on campus or from the comfort of their own homes.

Twenty-two subjects are covered, including, but not limited to, Writing, Math (from Developmental to Advanced Calculus), Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, and Spanish. Both asynchronous and synchronous sessions are offered. Synchronous sessions allow students to chat in real time with an online tutor during scheduled sessions. Writing submissions and other questions can also be submitted asynchronously, and students can expect a response within 24-48 hours.

“This flexible tool is a wonderful addition to our roster of student support options, giving students at QVCC even more opportunities to succeed,” says Rachel Sarantopoulos, Learning Center assistant. “Within the first few weeks of launching e-Tutoring at QVCC, 10 students have begun actively using this platform. The faculty has been very receptive to e-Tutoring as well, and we anticipate exponential growth in the coming semesters.”
