Learning Disabilities Services at QVCC
I am the Learning Disabilities Specialist at QVCC; my name is Chris Scarborough. If you are considering QVCC and you have questions regarding learning disabilities, take a moment and read this page- it may save you some frustration later.
There are many students with learning disabilities at QVCC. Some want the school to know about the LD and some don’t- either way is OK- it’s your call. Whether you wish to "disclose" your learning disability or not, it’s important for you to be familiar with what’s on this page. So, keep reading....
QVCC has a person on staff who is familiar with the educational needs of individuals with learning disabilities- that person is me.
If you want to go to school here, I recommend that you contact me as soon as
possible so that we can meet and discuss your plans. Enrolling in college involves
many steps that cannot be done all at once.

If you plan to start classes in the fall, you should call me in June (I’m here most of the summer). If you are going to start in January, call me in October.
I’m not at QVCC every day- only Wednesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday. Call me at 860-412-7200 and be sure to leave a clear message.
It will be very helpful if you bring me a copy of your documentation (if you have it) when we meet. It will stay in a confidential file (separate from your student file). You should also complete a Self-Disclosure Form and return it to me.
Even if you don’t want your teachers to know about your learning disability, I can still help you. They won’t know about your learning disability unless you want them to know.
So..., lets get together and talk. I know you can accomplish things here if you want to because I’ve seen plenty of others do it.
You may also find the answers to some of your questions in QVCC's Policies for Service to Students with Disabilities. I suggest you print it and keep it. Here are some other resources for college students who have learning disabilities:
- National Center For Learning Disabilities
- HEATH Resource Center
- ADD Warehouse
- Books on Tape
- National Attention Deficit Disorder Assn.
- Children and Adults with ADD
