Minutes of September 21, 2005

Attendance: Amy Kacerik, Hillary Poudrette, Lee McKusick, Jenn Armstrong, Jon Bisson and Rachel Mather.

President Hillary Poudrette called the meeting to order at 11:15am.

Treasurer’s Report:
Approximately $800 has been spent on our welcome back socials.

Providence Waterfire:
To reschedule or not to reschedule… that is the question. After discussion, it was decided that due to everything else we are planning for the month, it would be best not to reschedule. Lee made a motion to completely cancel the trip, and was seconded by Rachel. All in favor, motion passed.

Welcome Back Socials:
Both socials were very successful this year, and in Danielson, we paid for more lunches than ever before. Great job!!

Fundraisers for Hurricane Victims:
Jenn talked about a fundraiser that she was recently told about. A local school has recently sold Mardi Gras Beads as a fundraiser, and raised over $1,000 for hurricane victims. In speaking with the person who did this particular fundraiser and others, it was decided that we would try this as well. Jenn will be looking into ordering some Mardi Gras Beads from Oriental Trading, and we will have an update at the next meeting.

Recognition Day: On October 22nd, schools in the area will be participating in a day of remembrance/recognition. On this day, an event needs to take place, whether it is a fundraiser, or a presentation to a group as far as what you have done to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Hillary discussed the idea of doing a Penny War fundraiser. People could simply donate their spare change, but we could also add some excitement by creating a competition between faculty/staff vs. students. Would more people take part if we did that? More discussion to come…

Fundraisers, as of now, are scheduled for October 10th – October 21st.
We also discussed holding a Halloween Candy Sale, as we did last year. This will also be discussed at a later date.

Updates on Pool Equipment:
Jon has volunteered to make a flyer to be posted in the area of the pool table, letting students know the rules and regulations.

Elections for Foundation Representative:
Elections will be held on October 10th for anyone who is interested in being the student representative to the QVCC Foundation. Carole Blodgett had previously mentioned that she might be interested, and we are still waiting to see if any other students come forward.

New Business:
Hillary read us a proposal from Mark Szantyr. On October 27th, he would like to hold a Dinner for all Fine Arts Majors, and has requested financial support in the amount of $1,000. Rachel made a motion to provide the full amount requested, and was seconded by Jon. All in favor, motion passed.

We discussed some ideas for an October trip, and have decided that we would like to plan a trip to Salem on Saturday, October 29th. We will discuss this further at the next meeting.

Hillary told us that Matt Hall (PTK Advisor) would like to organize a Haunted House at QVCC for the community on Friday, October 28th. Everyone in attendance at the meeting agreed that it was something we would like to participate in, so we will wait for more details. PTK is also planning an event for Banned Book Week as well as a Community Action Volunteer Fair.

Amy mentioned some upcoming events: An Author will be here on September 27th to read from her book “Horse Thieves and Other Stories.” There will also be a job fair on the same day in the morning.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:50am.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 5th at 11am.

Respectfully Submitted,

Jenn Armstrong
Secretary
