Attendance:
Susan Harrod, Hillary Poudrette, Lee McKusick, Jon Bission, Rachel Mather,
Jillian Maris, Matt Hall, Carole Blodgette, Adam Griffiths.
President Hillary Poudrette called the meeting to order at 11:08 am.
Treasurer’s Report:
We had a lengthy treasurer’s report today:
Expenditures:
$89.90 for the Mardi Gras beads.
$350.00 to Anna Balint, who read from her book Horse Thief for the One Book
Discussion event.
$25.00 to TL Caterers for refreshments during the One Book Discussion.
$58.98 for Halloween candy sold at the Lucy Booth.
$100.00 to Jo Yarrington, the keynote speaker at the Art Student Dinner.
$573.75 to TL Caterers for the Art Student Dinner.
$82.00 to the Pizza Shack for pizza provided to Haunted Hallway volunteers.
$22.75 to Big Y for beverages and paper good for the Haunted Hallway.
Funds Raised:
$440 for sales of Mardi Gras beads and Halloween candy (there is additional
money to be collected at the Willimantic Center and some beads are still
available for sale in Susan’s office.)
$90.60 raised in donations at the Haunted Hallway.
The total from the Penny Wars will be published in the next meeting’s
minutes.
Haunted Hallway Wrap-up:
In short, the Haunted Hallway was a big success! We had close to 150 people
come through. Dean Huard said that she’d never seen so many people on campus
on a Friday night.
As a thank-you to the volunteers, we will be having a luncheon on Friday
November 18th from 12-1:30 in room 213.
November/December Trips:
We’ve decided to scrap plans for a trip this semester, mainly due to lack of
time for advertising, as well as having a lot of other things on our plate.
Instead, SGA is looking into the possibility of planning a trip to a Red
Sox/Yankees game this spring. We feel that this will draw lots of interest
and will more than likely sell out.
Santa Anonymous Winter Boot Collection
This was a success last year, and we will be doing it again this year. More
info to come.
Holiday Dazzle Light Parade:
QVCC will be making a float for Putnam’s Holiday Dazzle Light Parade on Nov.
27th at 5:00pm.
New Business:
We had 2 students at this SGA meeting who wished to have their organizations
officially recognized:
Jillian Maris spoke on behalf of the Women’s Studies Research Collective, an organization dedicated to studying how women are treated in different cultures, and the practices, and the impacts of those practices, of cultures on women. The Collective’s advisors are Jayne Battye, Nan Hirst, and Sharon Moore.
Adam Griffiths petitioned for recognition of a QVCC chapter of the National Protest Warrior organization. The group will meet to discuss and debate current world events and political issues. David Emigh has agreed to be the group’s advisor.
Both organizations have submitted the proper paperwork and will be voted upon next meeting.
Random Thoughts or Comments:
It was agreed upon during the meeting that Susan’s door should remain
neutral and not have anything on it that would promote any particular
organization or event (even SGA).
Lastly, elections will need to be held for the position of SGA secretary and treasurer, as our current officers holding those positions will be leaving us in the spring. (We’ll miss them!)
The meeting was adjourned at 12:10 pm.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 16 at 11:00am.
Respectfully submitted,
Lee McKusick,
Vice-President
