SGA Homepage SGA Events Minutes of SGA Meetings

Minutes of February 22, 2006

Attendance: Hillary Poudrette, Lee McKusick, Carole Blodgett, Hilary Osgood, Susan Harrod, Rachel Mather, Bob Fernandez, Eric Smith.

President Hillary Poudrette called the meeting to order at 2:35pm.

Treasurer’s Report: Since the last SGA meeting held on 2/8/06, the following expenditures were submitted to the Business Office:

1. $9.78 on 2/14/06 to Mansfield Big Y for sodas for the SGA Social in Willimantic;
2. $714.00 on 2/5/06 to TL Caterers for the SGA BBQ social in Danielson ($4.75 x 144 tickets = $684 + 1 case of cookies @ $30 for Willimantic);
3. $200.00 on 2/20/06 to Oobah’s Deli for soups and wraps at SGA Social held on 2/16 at the Willimantic Center.

Total amount of Payment Authorizations submitted to the Business Office during this period is $923.78.

Foundation Representative’s Report: The Foundation's Annual Gala went very well, with a good turnout and great food. Pictures are available on the Foundation website.
We're also entering the last days of the Foundation's online auction.

New Officers: Congratulations to our two newly elected officers for the Spring semester, Hilary Osgood for Secretary, and Josh Bill for Treasurer!

Bookstore Advisory Committee: There is no new information from Deans Huard and Bull about this item.

Welcome Back Socials Wrapup: 144 tickets were sold for Danielson’s Welcome Back Social; a very good turnout! We'd also like to thank Leona for yet again providing such excellent food.

Amendments to the SGA Constitution: In addition to the previous changes to the SGA Constitution, there were two more ideas for changes: 1. That the duty of maintaining the SGA website be mentioned in the Constitution, either for a specific position, or for any officer in general that has the technical skill needed, and 2. That in the event the Treasurer cannot be at an SGA-sponsored fundraiser, that he/she may appoint another officer to fulfill that requirement.

Spring Trips (Lion King): Most of the tickets from both campuses have been sold, with 5 (of 30) left from Danielson, and 3 (of 12) left from Willimantic. Sounds like we'll have a full bus!

Graduation Dinner Dance: Several locations for the dinner dance have been proposed (such as Wright's Mill, the Holiday Inn in Danielson, etc.), but we have yet to make a concrete decision as to where the dance will be held. We hope to have a location settled by next meeting.

Relay for Life: The Flower and Bake Sale on Valentine’s Day went very well. $341.50 was raised for Relay for Life. Saturday, February 25th, is the Ladies Health and Wellness event here at the college, and we'll be selling Relay Luminaries. The Staff/Faculty Relay team has 19 members, and is almost at their goal of at least 25. As a reminder, the Relay for Life event is May 20th and 21st.

Springtime Festival Parade: President Poudrette will bring information on this item to the next meeting.

Student Organizations: There is no new information on this item at this time.

Multicultural Programming Planning Committee: On March 22nd from noon to 2pm, QVCC is hosting a luncheon with Susan Bysiewicz, Connecticut's Secretary of State, for Women's History Month. IT will be held in the Danielson cafeteria. The student price is $2, while the staff and faculty price is $10. Tickets are available in the cafeteria (Danielson), and at the front desk (Willimantic).

Old Business: No old business at this time.

New Business: The Allied Health department is sponsoring a Meet and Greet Social March 22nd for students in the various health programs at QVCC. They have requested that SGA partially fund the social. President Poudrette proposed that because we fully funded the Art department's social a few months ago, that it would only be fair to do the same for the Allied Health social. Rachel Mather made a motion to fully fund the social, and it was seconded by Vice President McKusick. The motion passed.
Amy Kacerik, Associate Director of Career Services, has requested that SGA fund the annual Business Etiquette Dinner ($250 for a speaker, Colleen Gregory of “Better Manners and Etiquette”, as well as $12 per student attending). Vice President McKusick motioned that SGA fund the dinner, the motion was seconded by Rachel, and it was passsed.
It has come to the attention of SGA that the pianos in the cafeteria and the auditorium need to be tuned. Carole Blodgett made a motion to fund the tuning of the pianos, as it is something that SGA has traditionally funded, which was seconded by Vice President McKusick, and was passed.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:32pm

Respectfully Submitted,

Lee McKusick
Vice President
