Minutes from March 22, 2006
Attendance: Hillary Poudrette, Hilary Osgood, Joshua Bill, Susan Harrod, Carole Blodgett, Jean Bolin, Jenn Armstrong, Rachael Mather, Sue Corey.
President Hillary Poudrette called the meeting to order at 2:35pm.
Treasurer’s Report: There are no new items to report at this time.
Foundation Representative’s Report: It was reported that the “Kickoff” breakfast held March 15th was very successful. Attendance was good, and there were great remarks and feedback pertaining to the speakers of the event.
Bookstore Advisory Committee: SGA is still in the process of obtaining committee members from both campuses. Along with this, more clarification about the goals and procedures of the committee were discussed.
Spring Trips (Lion King): The Danielson campus has sold all their ticket, and Josh Bill will check on the status of the one remaining ticket at the Willimantic Center. Hillary Poudrette and Jenn Armstrong have volunteered to confirm the transportation aspect of the trip.
Graduation Dinner Dance: Continued from last meeting, more was discussed about the menu items and special accommodations. Herb Chicken and Manicotti are still the entrée selections, but more information will be gathered to accommodate those with allergies, vegetarian, etc. The full menu of choices will be posted at ticket sales. It was also decided SGA would look into the option of an open bar. A ticket price of $25.00 was set for students who are not graduating and guests. As for decorations, Hillary Poudrette and Jenn Armstrong have chosen white table cloths with red napkins. Along with this, they were also able to locate a red carpet to accommodate the “Hollywood Night” theme. Hilary Osgood reported that she has contacted DJ Gene, and was given a price quote of $700.00 negotiable.
Relay For Life: A bake sale has held today in the main lobby of the Danielson campus for fund raising. Jenn Armstrong has also confirmed permission from college administration to hold a mini-music festival inside the auditorium. Once more information is obtained about the entertainment, sound equipment will be available from the college. A date for this event was undecided, but May 6th is the most likely possibility.
Elections: Flyers are in the process of being posted for new SGA officer candidates to fill positions for the upcoming 2006/2007 academic year.
Spring Socials: The main theme for the Spring Social would be “Meet the Candidates” to correspond with the upcoming SGA election. Possible dates for the socials are April 19 at the Danielson Campus and April 20 in Willimantic. Susan Harrod will check the availability at both campuses, and report at the next SGA meeting. Along with this it was proposed that Carrie Ashton provide live musical entertainment, and would only apply to the Danielson campus due to the loudness and space issues of the Willimantic campus. [Addendum/update as of 3/23: Danielson Spring Social will be held Tuesday, April 11th @ 11:30. The Willimantic Spring Social will be held Wednesday, April 12th at noon.]
Spring Time Festival: The festival will be on May 13, and Hillary Poudrette contacted registration officials for the parade and has yet to receive a reply.
Earth Week: Carole Blodgett has previewed and selected four movies
for a showing to promote Earth Week in Danielson as well as at the
Willimantic Center. Carole has also received administration permission to
use a microwave for students to make popcorn if they like.
• Winged Migration
• March of the Penguins
• Koyanisqatsi
• Powaqqatsi
In addition to this, Carole has also organized a public clean up for the Danielson Area. This event will be held on Saturday, April 22nd and include a Power Point presentation hosted by Carole. She is also setting up some dates with Mark Szantyr during Earth Week for bird banding. A proposal was made to involve local youth, church, and environmental groups to raise as many volunteers as possible. At the Willimantic Center Josh Bill and Hilary Osgood are trying to organize a Willimantic based cleanup similar to the function in Danielson. A possible idea was to co-sponsor an event with ECSU, and further information will be given at our next SGA meeting.
Message Board: Sue Corey discussed her proposal to SGA to request for the listing of student groups on the SGA Homepage, and to request such groups be given the opportunity to provide a link to their respective independent web sites or email addresses. A motion was passed by SGA to request that student organization links be added to the SGA website with liability disclaimer for the college.
Student Organizations: As discussed at the last SGA meeting, Susan sent an email to faculty/staff advisors of current student organizations. SGA would like student representatives from these groups to periodically attend SGA meetings to inform members of events and activities taking place. Susan received a reply from Sharon Moore who clarified she is not an advisor for the Research Collective.
Multicultural Programming Planning Committee: The Women’s History Month luncheon held today at the Danielson campus with guest speaker Susan Bysiewicz was a success. There were 75 tickets sold to the event, and feedback from those in attendance was positive.
Old Business: Previous changes to the constitution had not been made official and will be distributed by Hillary Poudrette when done so.
New Business: Dean Huard has requested that SGA help sponsor a recognition event for students for their involvement in and service to the college. This would be in addition to Awards Night which is for scholarships. The sponsorship was motioned by Carole Blodgett, seconded by Rachael Mathers and passed. Funds for this event would come from previous funds in the Student Activity Account and not from the current SGA Budget. Those who would be invited would include students have gone above and beyond at the college, such as SGA officers, tutors, S.T.A.R.S. (Willimantic), etc.
Random Thoughts or Comments: There are no new items to report at this time.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:54 pm.
