Minutes of April 18, 2006

Attendance: Hillary Poudrette, Lee McKusick, Joshua Bill, Susan Harrod, Jenn Armstrong, Sue Corey

President Hillary Poudrette called the meeting to order at 3:36pm.

Treasurer’s Report: Since our last meeting, the following Payment Authorizations were submitted to the Business Office:
1. $17.76 on 4/10 to Mansfield Big Y for sodas and cups for the SGA Social/Meet the Candidates in Willimantic on 4/12;
2. $50.00 on 4/11 to Hillary Poudrette (petty cash) for the bus driver’s tip for the trip to/from The Bushnell for The Lion King performance on 4/22;
3. $225.00 on 4/12 to Oobah’s Deli for catering the lunch (60 x $3.75 per person) at the SGA Social/Meet the Candidates at The Willimantic Center
4. $500.00 on 4/12 to Curbstone Press for the poetry reading by Bulgarian poet, Levchev, who will be at the Danielson campus on April 25th as an event sponsored by the Multicultural Program Planning Committee;
5. $300.00 on 4/12 to David Emigh, advisor to the Soldiers Angels student group, for the cost of the 100 dozen boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts for their fundraiser;
6. $704.50 to TL Caterers for the SGA Social/Meet the Candidates in Danielson (142 tickets @ $4.75/each) & a box of cookies for the Willimantic SGA Social.

The total amount of Payment Authorizations submitted to the Business Office during this period was $1,797.26. In addition, SGA was charged $15.52 by the Bookstore for poster board available to students who are candidates for next year’s SGA officers..

Bookstore Advisory Committee: [No new information at this time.]

Spring Fling Wrap Up: At both campuses the socials featuring “Meet the Candidates” went well. The Danielson campus hosted a cookout on 04/11/06, in which 142 people were in attendance. On 04/12/06 the Willimantic Campus held their social which was catered by Oobah’s Deli, and had an estimated 60 people in attendance.

Elections: Currant Candidates: Paul Czyz, Briana Walton, David Freeman and Christopher Contois. Two more students, Thomas Stone and Lydia Lagerberg, have shown interest in running, and SGA has approved their late candidacy. Elections will be held on April 24th and 25th. Susan is also working on absentee ballots for students who do not have classes on either day. She is also looking for volunteers at the Lucy Booth both days to inform students to vote.

Lion King: Hillary Poudrette will be in charge of picking up the actual tickets for the event and tip money for the bus driver. There was also miscommunication about the disclaimer for those going on to the event. Susan Harrod was advised that the disclaimer was to be signed when everyone arrived to the bus. To ensure that in the future everyone who goes on a trip understands the disclaimer, it should be signed when they purchase their tickets.

Graduation Dinner Dance:
• Invitations are in the process of being designed and distributed.

• Tickets must be purchased and picked up by May 10th; Graduating students who receive the complimentary tickets must also pick their tickets up by this date.

• SGA approved to combine efforts and funds with a local Home Schooling group to keep the cost of decorations low. The specifications and details will be presented at the next meeting.

• SGA will also be collecting DVD Cases (not the actual Movie) for decorations to support the “Hollywood Nights” theme.

• Eric Smith, assisted by SGA, will create and display directions to Wrights Mill.

• The DJ has contacted Susan Harrod, and agreed on the price of $350.00. He would also like SGA to compile a play list and email it to him.

Relay For Life: Susan Harrod and teammates will hold a rally on 04/25/06.

Spring Time Festival Parade: The application to participate in the parade is due by 4/25/06. The GSA would like to be involved. Hilary Poudrette has volunteered to be in charge of the paper work along with acquiring a truck and trailer. A volunteer sign up sheet will be created and displayed.

Earth Week: [no new information at this time]

Discussion Boards: [no new information at this time]

Student Organizations: Phi Betta Kappa Induction Ceremony is May 19th. SGA has $300 in the budget for this event.

Multicultural Programming Planning Committee: Will hold its last meeting for the semester on May 9th.

Bulgarian poet Lyubomir Levchev will read from his most recent book, Ashes of Light: New and Selected Poems, on Tuesday, April 25, at 6:30 pm at the Danielson campus in room 106. Willimantic Based students will be able to join via Polycom in room 4.

Foundation Representatives Report: A foundation representative was not present at the meeting.

Old Business:
• Student Recognition dinner is finalized and will be held on May 23rd, at 5:00 in the Danielson cafeteria. This dinner will recognize students who have volunteered their time to better QVCC and the community. Recipients will include SGA Officers, S.T.A.R.S (Willimantic), Student Organizations, etc. Sue Corey also recommended that those running for SGA office be invited.

• Unsung Hero Awards: Each SGA member will comprise a list of 4 students and 4 faculty members who they believe should receive this award. At next scheduled meeting members will discuss their nominees, and winners will be selected. Winners will receive a complimentary ticket to the graduation dinner dance and an award certificate.

New Business: Josh Bill has asked for funds from SGA to buy recycling containers for the Willimantic center. Josh will further discuss this with Delia Berlin and gather more information and prices for the next scheduled meeting. SGA will then hold a vote.

President Hillary Poudrette adjourned the meeting at 4:20pm.
